Columbo finally decided to investigate a hunch of his. He took a visit to Inspector Gadget's house. Gadget opened the door:
"Hel-"
Columbo shoved past him in silence.
"Why, of course you can come in, Lieutenant!"
Columbo walked down the stairs, and Gadget followed nervously.
The Lieutenant was in complete shock at what he saw. Grucci Nishikino, the person he had been seeking all along, was tied to a chair in Gadget's basement.
"Lieutenant, I'm as shocked as you! I swear I had nothing to do with this!"
"Oh, I meant no offense, HONEST," shrewd Columbo retorted.
"I reckon someone's set us up!"
"Oh, absolutely," Columbo said, furious with Y'know, I couldn't agree more."
Gadget knew his game was over. He threw one of the artifacts he'd stolen himself at the bookcase, specifically a container that held a heart-shaped purple thing. Columbo turned to it, prepared for whatever would happen next. Except, of course, for what actually happened next. "Go go gadget shovel!" Gadget shouted, and everything went black.
"I'm so very sorry, Lieutenant," Gadget gloated, Go-Go-Gadget putting away the shovel he just knocked his former ally out with. "I'll be taking this, sir." He took the notebook that the green-haired man from before had been relieved of. Hidden within its pages was a key, which paired perfectly with the last artifact, the Locked Locket that was attached to Gadget's body all along.
And when Gadget turned the key, he began to change.
